Week 17: 4/22/12-4/28/12

Sunday, April 22nd: Getting a little frustrated that Hud will roll over for everyone else, but as soon as I'm around, he freezes up. It's a good thing that other people are seeing it, or I might think I've made it up :-P But a glorious Happy Earth Day! It's been raining less than 24 hours and we've got at least 3" of standing water in our yard - yuck! I did venture out into the nastiness though to get a brown sharpie for Hud's growth chart, and found a great deal at Staples - collage frame that holds 2-4x4 & 2-4x6 for $0.50 each... so I got all 3 - happy Mother's Day and Father's Day for my parents in the making :)

Monday, April 23rd: A bit of an off day schedule wise. Naps were all out of sync and Hudson ended up going down for the night at 615. Maybe a touch of sleep deprivation leftover from our action-packed weekend?
Tuesday, April 24th: Raleigh again today, but without much purpose. Mimi was supposed to come to Greensboro, but Nate had to be at the Capital Blvd store, so we hitched a ride into town to just hang out. I did notice in the pictures from today how chubby Hud's cheeks are getting (a relief as I was a little worried that bumping up his solid foods would make him nurse less and not gain weight as well). We had a delicious dinner with Mimi, Pop, Auntie, and Nate when he got off work. Not very often that he gets to hang out with them, but they sure do love him! :)

Wednesday, April 25th: Since Hudson has decided that he'll roll over for anyone but me (I've missed at least part of every single one of the numerous rolls so far), I camped out, determined to see - and record - at least one. The first one today was so fast that I only got the second part recorded. So, I flipped him back over, told him to slow down so I could catch it all, and reset the record feature... and the second roll was so slow, I'm sure he was mocking me! But I got to see it and recorded it, and got it up on Facebook :) Nate was home for most of the day with us, which freed me up to rock out to Pearl Jam and make some fake Chinese for dinner :)

Thursday, April 26th: Hudson has decided over the last few days that we're going to revert back to co-sleeping on the couch and nursing every 45 minutes, so one of my friends recommended "The No-Cry Sleep Solution", which I've started reading with voraciousness!

Friday, April 27th: What an amazing day! Hudson was wonderfully behaved today :) We had brunch with Fran at the Moose Cafe at the Farmer's Market and went with her to get ferns for her parents, then did some random running around. Little man was in such a great mood all day, had a couple short naps, and was incredibly pleasant... until about 620pm, when all hell broke loose, and he screamed until falling asleep at 830. No real reason that I could discern, but boy, was he unhappy. Funny how babies can go from screaming one second to crashed the next... and how quickly I can crash too. I don't remember talking to my mom after putting Hud down, Nate calling or coming home, or falling asleep on the couch. Next thing I knew, it was 1230 and we were waking up for a feeding. Strange, huh?
Saturday, April 28th: Not a whole lot going on today since it was so chilly: went to the library, made pizza muffins (with a modified recipe = delicious!), found out my grandmother is moving to Minnesota in the fall, started working on the changes I'm reading about in the sleep book, etc. Not quite as good of a day as yesterday, but better than we've had in the recent past.

Week 16: 4/15/12-4/21/12

Sunday, April 15th: Hudson stands for the first time by himself (not for very long, and realizes that he's happier holding on, for now), enjoys his second food - peaches, and is teasing us with a near-rolling over.

Monday, April 16th: Hudson rolled over!! Nate went in to get him out of his crib when he was crying to find him belly-up (when I always put him to sleep on his tummy, shame on me)
Tuesday, April 17th: Auntie got her braces put on today when we were in Raleigh, we had lunch downtown with Pop, and then went to visit Jessica and Debra, and wander around the mall.

Wednesday, April 18th: Uncle Blake had oral surgery this morning, so while waiting for him to be done, Hudson is eating, erm, I mean, kissing Mimi!
Thursday, April 19th: I think this might just be my new favorite picture of Hudson - messy bedhead curls!
Friday, April 20th: Lots of running around to do today! Natalie had a chorus trip to Carowinds first thing this morning, then we went shopping, then picked her up and headed to Raleigh for the night so we could go to the opening of the new wing of the Natural Science Museum (and let me tell you how great Hudson slept after being up until 145 - if only I could stay awake that late all the time!)

Saturday, April 21st: Luckily the predicted rain held off long enough for us (me, Hudson, Natalie, Alyssa, Mimi, Pop, Auntie, Gillian, and her parents) to go strawberry picking, then have a delicious lunch at a new-ish restaurant. Afterwards, we headed to the park (minus Gillian's dad, but plus her dog, Cody) where the girls got some running-around time in before the rain came.

Week 15: 4/8/12-4/14/12

Sunday, April 8th: Happy Easter!
Monday, April 9th: First real day of Sissies' Spring Break, so we're cuddling and hanging out, finishing up the end of Gilmore Girls (oh, bittersweet!)

Tuesday, April 10th: Hudson did great at his checkup, only cried a little bit after his shots. He's 14 pounds 2 ounces and is 24 inches long - what a little chunker (even though he's still only in the 25th percentile). Hudson's just about got this rolling over thing down - not going to be too much longer before we can't keep him contained!
Wednesday, April 11th: Daddy came home from work early to cuddle with Hudson!
Thursday, April 12th: National Grilled Cheese Day? Don't mind if I do! Hudson laughed at peek-a-boo for the first time today (usually he just looks at you like you're certifiably insane).
Friday, April 13th: Just a random fact: I LOVE FRIDAY THE 13th!
Saturday, April 14th: Today we ran to Raleigh (quite literally dashed there since I'm an idiot and forgot that I can't remember anything that isn't written down) for Erin's bridal shower. It was wonderful to see her and her mommy, and Hudson enjoyed the cows that were grazing in a field adjacent to the vineyard, crying when we left (but I finally got the lip on camera!).

Week 14: 4/1/12-4/7/12

Sunday, April 1st: Oh, how I HATE April Fool's Day. If I were into it, though, this onesie would say "Big Brother" instead, but I'd hate to jinx myself :) In a non-joke, though, Hudson sat on my lap, sideways, unassisted today!
Monday, April 2nd: Ah, no sleep again (1 hr nap total)... something's GOT to give! Girls' report cards came home today - a little room for improvement for Natalie, but straight A's for Alyssa - overall great :)

Tuesday, April 3rd: Hudson is trying to "crawl" - pushing up on his knees and throwing himself forward, though the overall effect is scooting along on his face. We ordered a new teething necklace, which came today, so hopefully that'll help. Also, we went to see the Easter Bunny... but Hud was having none of it :)

Wednesday, April 4th: 4 Months Old Already?!?!?
Thursday, April 5th: Today, Hudson said "hi" back to Nate while they were chatting it up this morning! (P.S. that was my first word too!)

Friday, April 6th: Spring break starts today, and I'm realizing that Easter is right around the corner and I need to get started on making baskets.

Saturday, April 7th: Today was the finishing touches of planning for Easter and we had a glorious Meagan/Ethan date. The boys took turns napping at their house, but were very well-behaved when we went out for lunch... and we got the first picture of both boys awake and content! Hudson was so worn out from all the excitement, he fell asleep mid-bite of his bananas for dinner, so I used the time to finish up the last 3 Easter baskets. Problem is, I was so exhausted too, that I put on eggs to boil for dying tomorrow and totally forgot about them... until they started exploding, sounding like gunshots and smelling absolutely awful >.<

4/4 = 4 Months!!

Happy 1/3 Birthday Little "Z-Ra"!

One Month: (7 pounds 14 ounces, 21 inches)
Two Months: (10 pounds 12 ounces, 21.25 inches)
Three Months: (approx. 12 pounds 4 ounces, 23.5 inches)
Four Months: (14 pounds 2 ounces, 24 inches)

Some interesting Hudson facts/accomplishments:
  • grabbing things with two hands
  • starting the pincer grip
  • touching fingertips together and to other objects
  • eating baby foods (bananas are his favorite, but likes apples and peaches too; i think he's developed my sensitivity to pears; veggies - even sweet ones - aren't coming too easily)
  • trying to sit up (he's made it on his own on my lap for about a minute)
  • wanting to stand all the time - propped against our shoulders, holding our hands, however possible - for over a minute at a time, then a quick rest, then right back up
  • pushing up on his tummy all the way
  • not rolling yet, but starting to throw his leg over his back when he's on his belly (as if he's trying to get momentum going) - edit: shortly after 4 months, he started rolling belly to back over his left shoulder
  • recognizing faces and voices, following people as they move across a room, finding someone when he hears their voice
  • starting to do "crunches" when he's on his back or leaned backwards as if trying to sit up
  • will occasionally splash the water when he's sitting in the bathtub
  • starting to cut 2 teeth (top and bottom right middle) - we can feel where his gums are no longer squishy, but they haven't broken free yet
  • finally loves to have his diaper changed - no more tears!
  • has started developing a schedule that looks a bit like this (i know it looks like a lot of chaos, but I'm letting HIM develop the schedule - when i tried to set it for him, much tantruming ensued):
    • awake for good around 8-30 (if earlier, he will usually take a morning nap, but is always up by 9)
    • nurse
    • nap around 11-1130ish
    • lunch
    • nurse then sometimes nap around 2
    • nurse then nap around 430-5
    • dinner 630-730ish
    • bath
    • nurse
    • sleep by 830-845
    • up around 12-1, 2-330, 5-6
  • size 2 diapers, but even though he's still in the weight range, we'll probable move up to 3s when this pack is gone (and I've discovered that i prefer Huggies for him... wonder if this'll change when he gets out of the Snugglers)
  • almost entirely out of 3 month clothes - some are 3-6M, some are 6M, and one is even a 9M! :(
  • when laying on his tummy, he'll pull his legs under him then shoot them out, flopping himself onto his tummy, but scooting him forwards in the process. not exactly crawling, but definitely on the move!
  • loves his johnny jumper and has recently started to bounce himself rather than wait for one of us to bounce him. he also will turn himself in a circle (but can only turn one way) while in it. there's not a lot of sitting done in the seat of it... unless he falls asleep while in it
  • tolerates (quite well honestly) wearing socks, shoes, hats, and sunglasses
  • cannot go without his paci - I've got a collection (okay, there's 8 in a Ziploc bag!) of them that go in the car with us!
  • has started imitating words: about two weeks ago, Nate brought him to sit in the chair with him when Hud woke up crying; i came in the room, he looked at me and screamed "ma!" as if he was furious that he was awake without having a boob in his mouth! then, last week, while crying, i swear he said "mama" and "boobie". then, he was having a morning conversation with Nate and said "hi" back to daddy!
